Warchild (a poem by VersAnnette Blackman-Bosia) created for Simpatico Spring 2017 solo exhibit at Chicago Mindful Psychotherapy.
Lean in. I’m a roadmap.
Do not call me cute.
Do not ask to touch my hair.
Lean in. The truth is here.
Do not question my anger.
Do not ask why I feel I do not belong.
Lean in. Breathe in compassion.
Do not pretend to know.
Do not expect my sympathy.
You are late to the party.
Lean in. My entire life has been a war.
And it is here where I’ve
Planted seeds of survival
Long before this all
became personal to you.
